Phase 1: Returning Election Officials Recruitment Drive

Statement by the Supervisor of Elections
Mr Mohammed Saneem
Phase 1: Returning Election Officials Recruitment Drive
Date: 31/08/21
Time:3pm

Bula Vinaka Ladies and Gentleman, and I welcome you to today’s announcement on the recruitment drive for the 2022 General Election.

The Fijian Elections Office [‘FEO’] will be recruiting between 15,000 to 17,000 election officials to work in the next general election.

Our strategy is that we will be recruiting people who have already worked for us in the 2018 General Election as well as those who have not worked for us before but are interested in joining the team.

Therefore, we have divided the recruitment of election officials into 3 phases. The first phase is where we will be re-recording the details of officials who have worked with us in the 2018 General Election. This is an online phase where staff who have worked for us previously will be able to go online and enter their details so that we get our records updated.

The second phase which will commence in January next year will be for those who have not worked for us before and more announcements on that phase will be made closer to January. The third phase is where we will do targeted recruitments in areas we did not receive enough applications.

The current phase which is for returning Election Officials starts from tomorrow, the 1st of September and will continue until the 15th of October.

During this phase we urge all those who have worked for us in 2018 to go online and provide your details so we have the most current information.

Ladies and gentleman I would like to emphasize that even though this first phase is for officials who have worked for us before, we do not guarantee that you will all get a job. Appointment of staff at the FEO is based on merits and all persons who will submit their details during the first phase or apply to work for us during the second phase will undergo a merits-based assessment so that we can determine who, based on merits, will be operating the polling stations come the 2022 General Election.

Having said that, these are the salaries we intend to pay:

  • The Presiding Officers will receive $420 for their work on Election Day
  • Assistant Presiding Officer whose role has now been re-evaluated will be paid $250
  • The Polling Day Workers will be paid $180

We also have positions that will be made available for those who intend to participate in Pre-Polling. Pre-Poll staff will be paid on a daily basis and their allowance will be:

Presiding Officer: $111.00 per day.

Assistant Presiding Officer: $91.00 per day

Polling Day Worker: $ 72.00 per day

  • For those polling venues that have multiple polling stations, the FEO also places a customer support officer as in the Venue Queue Controller who is paid $110 and will only be employed during the day.

More details on this are available on the FEO website at www.feo.org.fj.

Ladies and gentleman before I conclude, I wanted to remind everyone that this is the first phase of recruitment which is meant for persons who have worked for us in the 2018 General Election to re-submit all their details so we have the most current information in our records.

The assessment will be done later for all these officials.

In order to apply, you will need to upload the following documents:

  • A copy of your FNPF card or a recent statement
