Launch of the Fiji National Polling Venue Directory 2022

FEO Warehouse

30 June 2022 @2pm

Bula Vinaka ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you today to the launch of the Fiji National Polling Venue Directory for the 2022 General Election.

Ladies and gentlemen, today’s launch signifies an important stepping stone for the FEO as we continue our preparations for this year’s election.

The Polling Venue Directory is an initiative of the Fijian Elections Office to compile and publish a comprehensive directory of all the Polling Venues that will be used in the general election in Fiji with finer details such as the exact location on a map, the route to that place, boundaries, as well as the areas from which voters are actually listed to vote in those Polling Venues.

The FEO has invested a lot in this documentation and it complements the earlier version of the National Polling Venue Directory that was published by the Fijian Elections Office in 2017.

Ladies and gentlemen, the FEO has invested close to $30,000 in completing and printing of these 2022 directories compared to $200,000 which was spent for the 2017 version.

Ladies and gentlemen, we anticipate to have 1,468 Polling Venues around the country in the 2022 General Election. As it is, any person who uses this Directory will be able to find significant information about these Polling Venues, as opposed to looking it up on a map through personal research.

To make it more accessible, the FEO will be distributing soft copies of the directories in USB cards to secondary schools and major libraries around the country while hard copies would be made available to major FEO stakeholders.

People can also get a copy of the directories from the FEO website at www.feo.org.fj.

Before I conclude ladies and gentlemen, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the hardworking team at the FEO who were involved in the preparation of the directory.

I also want to acknowledge the assistance provided by the Geospatial Unit at the Ministry of Land and Mineral Resources, the Fiji Roads Authority, the Bureau of Statistics and the Fiji Police Force for providing us with spatial datasets that were used to generate the Polling Venue maps.

The FEO also acknowledges the use of the GIS Platform; the most cutting-edge technology for spatial planning and management.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Fijian Elections Office continues to set greater benchmarks in the preparations and planning for elections in Fiji, and we only hope to continue raising these standards for future elections.

Thank you and vinaka vakalevu.
