The Fijian Elections Office [‘FEO’] is pleased to announce the successful completion of the “Introduction to Elections” workshop organized for Political Parties. The workshop was conducted by the Learning and Development Unit and was held from Monday, 8 July to Wednesday, 10 July 2024 at the Holiday Inn in Suva. The workshop saw the active participation of 21 representatives from the seven (7) registered political parties in Fiji.

The three-day workshop, which is part of the FEO’s ongoing commitment to enhancing collaboration with stakeholders, ensures that all political parties have some understanding of the electoral process. The initiative aligns with the FEO’s vision of fostering a transparent and inclusive electoral environment, promoting integrity, and equipping political party representatives with the necessary knowledge and skills to engage effectively in the democratic process.

The Supervisor of Elections, Ms. Ana Mataiciwa, in expressing her satisfaction with the outcome of the workshop, stated that the participation and engagement of political party representatives over the past three days has been commendable.

“This workshop is a crucial step in our efforts to build a robust and informed electoral system in Fiji. We believe that by working together and understanding the intricacies of the electoral process, we can ensure the integrity and transparency of our elections,” said Ms. Mataiciwa.

The workshop covered various aspects of the electoral process, including the legal framework governing elections, the roles and responsibilities of electoral stakeholders, and the operational procedures followed during elections. Participants were engaged in interactive sessions and practical exercises designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of electoral systems and procedures.

Feedback from the participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many appreciating the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the electoral processes and the important role the FEO plays.

The FEO remains committed to providing continuous education and capacity-building opportunities for all electoral stakeholders. The FEO will continue to pursue opportunities for capacity building of important stakeholders like political parties.
