The Fijian Elections Office today officially commenced voter registration for the 2026
Local Government Elections, marking an important milestone in strengthening
democratic participation at the municipal level.
In a symbolic demonstration of leadership and commitment to the electoral process,
the first voter to be registered was the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission
Republic of Fiji, Justice Usaia Ratuvili.
The registration took place earlier today at the Voter Services Centre located at the
Suva Civic Centre Foyer. Speaking following his registration, Justice Usaia Ratuvili
encouraged all eligible Fijians residing in towns, municipalities and cities to visit Voter
Services Centres and register for the Local Government Elections.
Justice Ratuvili noted that Local Government Elections had not been held for some
time and emphasised that voter participation was essential for ensuring that the voices
of residents are heard in the development and governance of their communities.
“On behalf of the Electoral Commission and the Fijian Elections Office, we welcome
everyone. If you are staying in a town, municipality or city, please come and get
registered for the Local Government Elections. We haven’t had Local Government
Elections for a long time, if you want your voice to be heard, I encourage you to please
come and register,” said Justice Ratuvili.
To register and vote in the Local Government Elections, individuals must be registered
on the National Register of Voters and have resided within a Ward for at least three
(3) months.
Members of the public are reminded to bring their Voter Card when visiting a Voter
Services Centre to register. If they do not have a Voter Card, individuals may present
their original or a certified copy of their Birth Certificate, together with one (1) of the
following valid forms of identification:
- Fiji Passport;
- Driver’s Licence;
- TIN Card (Joint FRCS/FNPF Card);
- Social Welfare Identification Card;
- Student Identification Card from a tertiary institution registered with the Fiji
Higher Education Commission; or - Marriage Certificate (if married and wishing to use a spouse’s surname).
The Fijian Elections Office will progressively roll out Voter Services Centres across all
13 municipalities, with full coverage expected by Monday, 20 April 2026. As of Monday,
