The Registrar of Political Parties Ms Ana Mataiciwa confirms today, Thursday 21 May 2026, that the Proposed One Nation submitted its application for registration as a Political Party.

The proposed political party previously submitted an application under the name FijiansFirst; however, it was rejected based on the proposed name, as it nearly resembles that of the deregistered party FijiFirst as to be likely to be confused with or mistaken for that party within the meaning of section 8(h)(iii) of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding, and Disclosures) Act 2013 (PPA).

Section 8(h)(iii) of the PPA states:

The Registrar shall refuse an application for the registration of a proposed political party if

(h) the name of the proposed political party, the abbreviation or acronym of the name of the symbol is the same as the name, the abbreviation or acronym of the name or symbol of-

  • a political party which has been deregistered or wound up by the Registrar under this Act or any repealed law governing registrations of political parties.

Ms Mataiciwa confirmed that preparations are underway to publish the One Nation’s application in a newspaper and in the Fiji Government Gazette, as required under the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013 (Act). Once the publication is made, the statutory objections period will officially commence.

“During the objections period, any person may submit a written objection to the Registrar regarding the party’s application for registration. The Registrar will assess and determine all objections within seven (7) days of receipt after giving the proposed party an opportunity to respond,” said Ms Mataiciwa.

Upon completion of this process, the Registrar will determine whether the application by the Proposed One Nation meets the requirements set out under the Act, and whether the party will be registered.

The Registrar reiterates the importance of transparency and public participation in the Political Party registration process, ensuring that all proposed parties meet the legal requirements while providing members of the public with the opportunity to raise objections as provided under the law.

Mr Ravindran Kumaran, Founding Member of the proposed party submits the application documents to the Registrar of Political Parties.
