The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) wishes to assure all Fijians that its electoral processes, including the maintenance of the National Register of Voters, are administered strictly in accordance with the Electoral Laws of Fiji.

The FEO welcomes public scrutiny of its electoral processes and encourages informed public discussion on electoral matters. However, claims regarding the National Register of Voters and other electoral processes should be based on credible evidence and verified information rather than assumptions or false and misleading statements.

The FEO has noted the circulation of false and misleading information concerning the National Register of Voters and other electoral processes. Where necessary, the FEO will consider the application of section 144A(1) of the Electoral Act 2014, which prohibits the publication of information known, or reasonably believed, to be false and likely to influence the outcome of an election or diminish public confidence in the performance of the Supervisor of Elections or the Electoral Commission. A person or political party who contravenes this provision commits an offence and is liable, upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding $50,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding five (5) years, or both.

Voter registration is conducted in person using prescribed identification requirements. The National Register of Voters is continuously maintained through voter registration and update services, nationwide and overseas registration drives, and regular data-cleaning exercises undertaken in collaboration with key agencies, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Immigration, Fiji National Provident Fund, and the Fiji Corrections Service. These exercises include the verification of records relating to deaths, citizenship status and other changes that may affect voter eligibility to ensure that the Register remains current, accurate and compliant with the Electoral Laws. During the election period, these exercises are conducted more frequently to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the Register.

The FEO has assessed a number of claims relating to the National Register of Voters and other electoral processes and has determined that they are not supported by the facts. The FEO also wishes to assure the public that its voter registration processes, Election Systems and the assignment of voters to polling stations are administered in accordance with the Electoral Laws and established operational procedures. These systems are subject to continuous verification, oversight and review, together with established legal and administrative safeguards, to support the integrity, security, accuracy and efficient delivery of electoral services.

The FEO remains committed to transparency and accountability. Members of the public are encouraged to obtain electoral information from the FEO’s official communication channels and to seek clarification where they are uncertain about any electoral process before publishing or sharing information. Responsible sharing of accurate information is essential to maintaining public confidence in Fiji’s electoral process.

The FEO remains committed to administering electoral processes that are accurate, credible and fully compliant with the Electoral Laws, while continuing to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, accountability and professionalism in the delivery of Fiji’s electoral services.
