The Fijian Elections Office and the Ministry of Immigration today formalised a key partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the integrity, accuracy, and credibility of Fiji’s electoral processes.

Speaking at the signing, the Supervisor of Elections Ms Ana Mataiciwa said the collaboration represents an important milestone in enhancing institutional cooperation and public confidence.

“This partnership strengthens the integrity of our electoral processes by enabling the verification of passport details to ensure that the National Register of Voters remains accurate and up to date,” said Ms Mataiciwa.

She added that the MoU will enhance data sharing between the two (2) institutions, support voter registration and nominations processes, and improve services for Fijians both locally and abroad.

The agreement will allow the FEO to verify Passport details and Citizenship information submitted during voter registration and update the National Register of Voters, including identifying individuals who are no longer Fijian citizens.

Permanent Secretary for Immigration, Aliki Salusalu, highlighted that the MoU establishes a practical and cooperative framework for secure and responsible information sharing between the two institutions.

“At the centre of this understanding is the timely, secure, and responsible sharing of relevant information. This will support both institutions in effectively carrying out their respective mandates,” said Mr Salusalu.

Mr Salusalu added that the partnership reflects a whole-of-government approach to service delivery, where collaboration and coordination are essential to strengthening governance and improving outcomes for Fijians.

Under the MoU, both parties will ensure that all shared information is accurate, necessary, and handled in accordance with legal and procedural requirements, with appropriate safeguards and confidentiality measures in place.

The partnership will also support coordination on overseas voter registration plans and enhance verification processes to ensure the credibility of electoral data.

Both the FEO and the Ministry of Immigration reaffirmed their commitment to working together in the spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility as Fiji prepares for upcoming elections.
