Temporary Closure of Voter Services Centres around the Country

The Fijian Elections Office [‘FEO’] announces the temporary closure of its Voter Service Centres [‘VSC’] around the country from 1 July to 26 July 2024. This closure is necessary to facilitate the upgrade of the Voter Registration System.

Temporary Closure Details:

Dates: 1 July to 26 July 2024

Locations:  VSCs in Suva, Lautoka, and Labasa.

Purpose of the Closure:

The FEO is undertaking a comprehensive upgrade to enhance the Voter Registration System. This upgrade includes:

  • Database transition;
  • Biometric template re-extraction;
  • Setup of a new matching mechanism;
  • Updating synchronization scripts;
  • Deployment of the matching mechanism;

These improvements are critical for enhancing operational efficiency, data integrity; and security, ensuring a smoother and more reliable voter registration process.

The integrity and efficiency of voter services are crucial for maintaining public trust in the electoral process. Periodic upgrades are essential to enhance security, user experience, and incorporate new functionalities. The FEO has contracted developers who will be on-site from Wednesday 03 July to Saturday 20 July 2024 to oversee and execute these tasks.

Under the Electoral Act 2014, the Electoral Commission Fiji [‘ECF’] has the responsibility and authority to formulate policy and oversee the conduct of elections, including voter registration matters. As such, the ECF has approved this temporary closure.

The FEO is working with relevant agencies and stakeholders to ensure members of the general public are well-informed. The FEO expresses its sincere apologies for any inconvenience this undertaking may cause.

All VSCs will resume operations from 8.30am on Monday 29 July 2024.
