FEO Pays Out Allowances to Community Election Advocates

The Fijian Elections Office [‘FEO’] has today disbursed $7,200.00 to 22 communities in Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata as part of the Community Engagement Project in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme.

In addition, 22 Community Election Advocates [‘CEA’] have collectively received their allowances for conducting election awareness sessions in their respective groups.

“The community representatives who were trained by the FEO are not only creating election awareness but also leading the conversation on elections within their groups and this is what the FEO had envisioned accomplishing with this Project,” said the Supervisor of Elections, Mr Mohammed Saneem whilst announcing the third round of disbursements.

The CEAs are required to conduct a 15-minute awareness session on elections with their community members and depending on the number of participants who attend the session, the community receives a grant which will go towards any development activity that benefits their community.

So far, the FEO has disbursed $21,700 to 66 communities as part of this project.
