FEO facilitates name change through BDM Registry

13 October 2021

The Fijian Elections Office [“FEO”] has facilitated name changes for three (3) voters out of the 16,032 that have come to the Voter Services Centers [“VSC”] for voter related services.

The Supervisor of Elections [“SoE”] Mr Mohammed Saneem says these applications were received by the FEO at various registration centers that have been currently set-up to accommodate the upgrade from the ‘Green Coloured’ VoterCard which has expired to the ‘Blue Coloured’ VoterCard.

“One (1) application was received at the Suva Civic Centre on the 9th of October and another was received at the Suva Voter Services Center on the same day. The third application was received at the Lami VSC on the 10th of October, 2021. All three applications were forwarded to the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registry [“BDM”] on the 11th of October, 2021 and today, the 13th of October, we have already received the amended Birth Certificate and the voters have been informed to collect their new Birth Certificate as well as their new VoterCard.”

Mr Saneem says that people who wish to register for voting using names other than that which is on their Birth Certificate can simply apply and have their names on the Birth Certificate changed, so that the FEO can facilitate the new name on the person’s VoterCard.

“This can be done by the voter simply turning up to one of the VSCs and informing our staff who will assist the voter to complete the change of name application form as well as the voter registration form and the FEO will take it from there and facilitate the entire process with the BDM Registry,” Mr Saneem said.

As of the 12th of October, 2021, the FEO has recorded a total of 12,820 correction of voter details and a total of 3,248 New registrations.
