The Supervisor of Elections (SoE), Ms Ana Mataiciwa, yesterday briefed political party representatives on preparations for Fiji’s upcoming General Election and the National Referendum, providing updates on electoral operations, recent legislative amendments, and key arrangements for both electoral events.
The briefing kept political parties informed of the Fijian Elections Office’s (FEO) preparations and ensured they were aware of changes to electoral laws and the arrangements that will guide the upcoming electoral processes.
Ms Mataiciwa outlined recent amendments to the Electoral Act 2014, the Political Parties Act 2013 and the Electoral (Registration of Voters) Act 2012, highlighting changes relevant to political parties, candidates, campaign expenditure, electoral offences and voting procedures.
The briefing also covered progress in voter registration and awareness, provisional polling venues, recruitment and training of election officials, and the preparation of election materials. These updates provided political parties with an overview of the FEO’s operational readiness ahead of the General Election.
In addition, Ms Mataiciwa provided an update on preparations for the National Referendum, including the provisions of the National Referendum Act 2026 and key dates for the referendum process. The National Referendum 2026 is proposed for 09 December 2026, with postal voting applications closing on 18 November 2026.
The briefing is part of the FEO’s ongoing engagement with political parties to share key electoral updates, clarify legislative and procedural requirements, and keep stakeholders informed as preparations continue for both the General Election and the National Referendum 2026.
