The Electoral Commission of the Republic of Fiji (Electoral Commission) and the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) note today’s announcement by the Honourable Prime Minister that the Local Government Elections will be conducted after the upcoming General Election.
While the timing of the Local Government Elections has changed, the work of preparing Fiji for its next national electoral event continues with full momentum.
The Electoral Commission and the FEO acknowledge the broader national considerations outlined by Government, including fiscal pressures, operational demands, and the scale of electoral activities anticipated over the coming months. The FEO remains focused on ensuring that Fiji’s electoral preparedness and voter registration efforts continue efficiently and responsibly.
The Electoral Commission and the FEO assure all Fijians that Voter Registration activities continue uninterrupted. Voter Registration activities now take even greater importance as Fiji prepares for the next General Election, which may be held at any time between 07 August 2026 and 06 February 2027.
Across the country, FEO teams continue to bring voter services directly to the people, directly to the people in villages, settlements, schools, tertiary institutions, workplaces, and communities, ensuring that every eligible Fijian has the opportunity to register, verify, and update their voter details. Since the commencement of the YES Outreach Nationwide Voter Registration and Awareness exercise on 04 May 2026, more than 16,000 Fijians have accessed Voter Registration and Awareness services through the FEO’s nationwide deployment.
The Electoral Commission and the FEO encourage all eligible voters not to wait until an election is announced. Register now. Update your details now. Be prepared now.
Preparations for the General Election are well advanced and continue in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Fiji. Recruitment of election officials, voter awareness, operational planning, systems testing, stakeholder engagement, and readiness activities remain ongoing as the FEO prepares for one of the country’s largest and most complex peacetime operations.
The Electoral Commission and the FEO remain committed to safeguarding the democratic rights of all Fijians and ensuring that the electoral process continues to be conducted with professionalism, integrity, transparency, and credibility.
Fiji’s electoral institutions will continue to work closely with stakeholders, communities, and voters across the country to ensure that every eligible Fijian is informed, prepared, and able to participate confidently and meaningfully in Fiji’s democratic process.
