British High Commissioner to Fiji pays Courtesy Call on the Acting Supervisor of Elections. The British High Commissioner to Fiji His Excellency Dr. Brian Jones paid a courtesy call on the Acting Supervisor of Elections (ASoE) Ms Ana Mataiciwa on Friday afternoon, 19 April 2024.Discussions were centered around the FEOs plans for the upcoming Local Government Elections and the current operations of the FEO.The ASoE was also delighted to share with the High Commissioner how the FEO is moving forward with initiatives to ensure a more inclusive and motivated workforce and work culture.The FEOs Community and International Engagement Coordinator Eric Drodrolagi sat in with the ASoE for the discussions. FEO conducts Introduction to Elections Workshop for External Stakeholders.The Acting Supervisor of Elections [ASoE] Ms. Ana Mataiciwa today Wednesday 17 April 2024 opened a two (2) day Introduction to Elections Workshop for external stakeholders of the Fijian Elections Office [FEO]. The workshop is targeted towards external stakeholders that play a pivotal role in assisting the FEO in the conduct of Elections.The FEO invited two (2) to three (3) staff from 14 respective Government Ministries and statutory bodies.In her opening remarks, Ms. Mataiciwa underscored the need for collaboration approaches in the electoral process."As we engage in discussions and activities, I encourage you to leverage this platform to network with your fellow participants and exchange ideas that can enrich our collective understanding of election management," said the ASoE.The workshop is spearheaded by the Training and Development Unit of the FEO. FEO conducts internal Gender and Disability Inclusion Workshop.Staff of the Fijian Elections Office [FEO] participated in a two (2) day training on inclusion considerations for Gender and Inclusivity. In addressing the staff, the Acting Supervisor of Elections [ASoE] Ms. Ana Mataiciwa stated that having an electoral process that acknowledges and accepts individuals regardless of gender or ability, is crucial for any Election Management Body [EMB], given that it promotes inclusivity, increases voter turnout, improves representation and builds trust."Our goal is clear and that is to embed gender and disability considerations within our election plans, policies and procedures. By enhancing awareness and sensitivity, identifying barriers and mainstreaming considerations, we ensure that out electoral framework reflects the principles of democracy and equality," said Ms. Mataiciwa.The goal of the workshop was to encourage staff to ensure that policies, procedures and other undertakings have considerations for inclusion of gender and disability with reasonable accommodation.The workshop was attended by Executive Management, Managers, Coordinators and Officers of the FEO. The workshop was conducted by the Training and Development Unit.This initiative is in line with the FEO’s 2024-2027 Strategic Plan guiding principle of Accessibility, strengthening electoral processes to foster inclusiveness and equal participation. The Fijian Elections Office [FEO] today received a Bilateral visit from the World Bank Fiji – Statistical Innovation and Capacity Building in the Pacific Islands Technical Mission. The Mission which included officials from the Pacific Community was lead by World Bank Senior Economist William Seitz.During the discussions, the processes and issues surrounding the collection and sharing of data was discussed at large.The following staff from the FEO participated in the discussion:1.
